Before the tour of Australia, the team director of the Pakistan cricket team, Mohammad Hafeez, criticized Haris Rauf's decision to withdraw from the Test series in Australia.

Before the visit, Mohammad Hafeez spoke to the media about Haris Rauf's initial hesitation and subsequent change of heart. According to the website 'Cricket Pakistan', a report by a local media outlet claimed that Haris Rauf was frustrated by the criticism and at one point even considered international retirement.

However, after consulting friends, he reversed his decision and refocused on his cricket career.

The report also stated that former director Mickey Arthur, recognizing Haris Rauf's exceptional pace, actively tried to convince him to join the tour of Australia during the 2023 World Cup.

Mickey Arthur stressed the importance of Haris Rauf as a key asset and expressed a keen desire to see him in action in the Test matches against Australia.

Despite Mickey Arthur's efforts, Haris Rauf consistently rejected these suggestions, citing his limited experience in first-class cricket and potential injury concerns. The report further claimed that the 30-year-old fast bowler had informed the team management about his fitness concerns during the World Cup.

Rauf expressed reservations about the expected challenges with his current fitness level during the Test matches and stressed the need for careful consideration.
