President Asif Ali Zardari's instructions to Sindh government to complete Kobi RT project soon

Asif Ali Zardari had taken notice of the extraordinary delay in the completion of the project, BRT project cannot afford any further delay, Sharjeel Memon.

  President Asif Ali Zardari issued instructions to the Sindh government to complete the Karachi Red Line Bus Rapid Transit project soon. President Asif Ali Zardari had taken notice of the unusual delay in the completion of the project. 

Karachi (which has been entrusted with the responsibility of implementing the Red Line BRT project) held a meeting to take the project forward.

It was told in the board meeting that ECNIC has approved a 30 percent increase in the revised cost. It was told in the meeting that the total cost of the project may increase from 79 billion to 103 billion. 

Sindh Transport Minister Sindh Sharjeel Inam Memon chaired a meeting to review the project and issued instructions to all stakeholders saying that the BRT project cannot afford any further delay.

He said that it should be ensured that all obstacles and problems are removed in the completion of the project. 

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council has approved more funds for the project in its meeting, while the Sindh government has also approved the project on behalf of the contractors. 

The problem of increase in logit has been solved. It has also been reported that the work on the Karachi Red Line Bus Rapid Transit project by the Asian Development Bank has been stopped for several months.

Work on the BRT project began after the foundation stone was laid, but after only 5 percent of the work was completed, contractors halted construction citing cost overruns and other issues. 

The contractors said that they are not cooperating with us to complete the project. The completion of the 26 km Karachi Red Line Bus Rapid Transit project is to be completed in 2025. 

A delegation of the United National Movement raised the issue of delay in the project during the meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari, on which the President assured the MQM delegation. It was promised that the issue of delay in the BRT project will be placed before the Sindh government.
